On the 29th, NVIDIA is releasing the 8800 GT for around $250 US. Grab that one. Also, grab another gigabyte of ram.

I started my Brutor with 6 CHA, 6 INT, 4 MEM, 14 PER and 9 WILL. The learning skills were a bit annoying at first, but I don't regret going this way. With +3 implants, I'm now at 17 CHA, 17 INT, 15 MEM, 25 PER and 20 WIL.

Seems like heating problems or bad memory on your card. What's the temperature when it's idle and under load? You could always bring it back and get another one. I suggest a 7600 GT instead though. Get an EVGA if you can.
